Not too far from home. Thousands of acres of
woods and fields filled with bursts of wildflowers, trails meandering across
glittering snow covered hills, water so blue it can only be matched by the sky -
this is Mille Lacs. At Mille Lacs you're less than two hours from the Twin
Cities or Duluth. With two state parks and Mille Lacs Lake (second largest in
the state) this area has much to offer visitors and residents all year-round.
Vacations here come in all sizes and in all kinds of weather. Weekend getaways
to sun on the beach or to cozy up to the fireplace. Week-long camping
excursions, hunting expeditions or snowmobile trips. Trying your luck at the
gaming tables at Grand Casino Mille Lacs. Fishing on warm summer days or crisp
winter ones. Bird watching during the fall migration. Something for everyone,
not too far from home. |

Mille Lacs Lake has 132,520 acres of some of
the finest walleye fishing in the country. In fact, the lake has been described
by some as a "walleye factory". You'll also find largemouth and
smallmouth bass, black crappie, northern pike, muskellunge, and the infamous
eelpout among the reeds and cabbage patches of the lake. Although fishing is a
major pastime on the lake, it is not the only one. On clear summer days the lake
is dotted with colorful wind-surfers, elegant sailboats, graceful water-skiers,
and daring jetskis, too. Swimmers and sunbathers have acres of sand beach where
they can soak up the sunshine.
The Father Hennepin and Mille Lacs Kathio State Parks provide vacationers
with camping and picnicking facilities, hiking and cross-country ski/snowshoe
trails, horseback riding trails and snowmobile trails. The creeks, ponds, woods
and meadows are filled with wildlife that the quiet visitor will be able to
observe. |
